Testing Trendy Pinterest DIYs: Geometric Cork Coasters

Geometric Cork Coasters

After attempting to make cork necklaces as Christmas gifts, I was left with five of the six cork coasters. On Pinterest I have seen DIY Geometric Coasters and thought I already own all but one of the supplies so why not give it a try and see if this trendy DIY works or not.
The first set of coasters I made I did not reference any pictures from Pinterest, but for the second set I made I replicated four designs that were found on Pinterest.

Supplies

Cork Drink Coasters
Acrylic Paint in Assorted Colors
Paint Brush Set
washi tape or painters tape (Dollar Tree, Scotch, Hobby Lobby)
Gloss Clear Acrylic Coating (water resistant)
ruler (optional)
scissors (optional)
X-ACTO Knife (optional)

Instructions

First place the tape where you want the cork to still be seen. I used three different sizes of washi tapes that all varied in width. This is not necessary, but I really liked the different patterns I was able to create by using a variety of washi tape. This is an example of a pattern that I replicated from Pinterest. I also used a ruler in order to make sure everything lined up and would not look wonky.

After taping off the sections or creating a pattern or shapes, you are ready to paint. Make sure before you start painting that you have secured the tape to the cork and there are no air bubbles under that tape.
I found that the lighter paint colors required more layers of paint. I would also recommend applying more thin and even layers of paint versus thicker layers.
I let the paint dry overnight and then peeled up the tape the next morning.
Before applying the gloss coating, use an exact knife to clean up the lines.
This next steps depend on the type of gloss coasting that you are using. The coating that I used instructed to spray a thin layer, let that dry and then spray on a second coat. It takes 24 hours for the coating to completely dry. After the 24 hours I felt as though the layer of gloss coasting was not think enough, so I applied another two coats and let is dry for another 24 hours.

 Hit or Miss?

I think the end product of this DIY proves that this trendy DIY is a hit. This DIY is so easy because it does not require any serious DIY stills. The possibilities for the colors and patterns are endless and make for a great accessory for any room. Let me know if you recreate this DIY by tagging me on Instagram!

Reasonable Dorm Room Cleaning Schedule

Reasonable Dorm Room Cleaning Schedule After my first semester of college I have developed a cleaning routine that I have been able to keep up with. You can read my previous blog post about What I Learned In My First Semester of College . Over the past few months I have experimented and I am confident in the routine that I have created.  Personalize When it comes to personalizing the schedule you could add or take out the different chores. For example I also wash my retainers weekly and monthly my roommate and I decorate the marker board on the outside of our door. We also only clean our mirrors when needed since we have found that they do not seem to become too dirty regularly. Something that I would make sure you sanitize every week would be the surfaces that you are constantly touching. That means light switches, door handles, and your desk. By doing this I managed to avoid getting sick when my roommate and other floor mates go sick. Another task that you could add ...

Bullet Journal Fitness and Workout Spread Ideas

If you want to purchase some of these spreads you can buy the digital bundle from my Etsy shop: Simply Paperless .  I had created six different bullet journal fitness and workout trackers/spreads. These spreads were made in my digital bullet journal using the GoodNotes App.   I highly recommend to use a stylus when using GoodNotes as a digital bullet journal. For this project I used the Adonit Dash 3 Stylus , which I highly recommend. I also recommend the Bargain Depot Stylus 2 Pack  from Amazon. Daily Workout Plan This first spread can be used to plan out what exercises you plan to workout each day of the week. I would recommend this spread for those who are just starting to workout. I did not created the workout that is used as the example for the content of this spread. The workout is from Pintrest Workout Plan .  Workout Tracker This next tracker is in the format of a monthly calendar. In order to track the different workouts...

Review of Flo Period and Ovulation Tracker App

Review of Flo Period and Ovulation Tracker App In need of a period, fertility or ovulation tracker application, well do I have the perfect one for you.  Flo is a free application that tracks periods, ovulation, fertility and even has a pregnancy mode. I downloaded Flo over two years ago and have yet to find a reason to stop using the app or switch to another period tracking application. Over my two years of using this application I have found it to be very accurate when predicting when my next cycle with start and end.  Getting Started When you first download Flo you enter in information pertaining to your weight, age, when your last period ended, how long it lasted, and other data. Answering these questions accurately helps the application to predict when your next cycle will begin and when your ovulation day is. Trackers The application uses a monthly calendar to display when your ovulation day is and when your period should start and end. The dates that ...
